Hostage

2015
Plaster Over Mesh, Unglazed High Fire Clay
Studio show, HaCubia, 2015

Hostage is a study of the intrusion and authority of Jewish religious patriarchy over women's bodies. The artist probes the tendency of the rabbinic patriarchy to view women as breeders subject to male control, specifically focusing on the Rabbinic push to make sure the wombs birthing children to Jewish men, are married or converted according to the most stringent Halakha. This piece questions who actually holds the power. The presence of the keys inside implies that it is in the women's hands, should we choose to exercise it.

This piece was featured in the show The Invisible Jew, here.
